breede valley

Our last stop for this holiday was at Die Kliphuisie. This was our second visit here and enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Many interesting farm stalls and wine farms in the area.

witsand

After Swellendam we spent a few days in Witsand enjoying the view from our accommodation. We also drove the back roads via Vermaaklikheid to Still Bay (which is a town I didn't really like very much), and popped into Inverroche to get some Amber Gin. One last stop in the interesting little village of Heidelberg.

swellendam

We spent a few restful days at Die Stal in Swellendam, exploring the local area.

I would recommend a stop at Wildebraam Berries for their jams, chutneys and liqueurs, definitely go to the Keurbomen cheese shop, and pop into the Country Butcher for the best chorizo I have had.

We also spent a day driving around the Bontebok National Park, which has some really nice picnic spots next to the river.

And hiked the duiwelsbos waterfall in Marloth nature reserve.

pringle bay beach house

We spent the weekend at Pringle Bay Beach House. Quiet, fantastic views and close to the beach...

grabouw highlands

We spent the day hiking in highlands (Grabouw). A very hot day, nice views, pretty flowers and we saw a fairly big puff adder too. Also stopped at Betty's Bay on the way home.

glen oakes

We spent the weekend in a beautiful wood cabin at Glen Oakes farm in the hemel and aarde valley near Hermanus.

The cabin is in a small forest, next to a little stream, with free range pigs and Braunvieh cattle on the hill above and a huge farm dam to swim in. The perfect place to completely relax.

We spent a relaxing weekend in Betty's Bay.

stanford

We spent the weekend on Vaalvlei farm outside Stanford, nice views and they produce some good wine too. Needless to say we also went to Klein River Cheese to stock up on Gruyere and Birkenhead for beer.

On saturday we drove to Gansbaai for the fynbos festival, and we saw plenty whales here and in Hermanus on the way home.

grabouw

We spent the weekend at Mofam river lodge in Grabouw, absolutely awesome location in a isolated valley, good food, but unfortunately the rooms are very close to each other so you don't have much privacy, and it was a little noisy with quad bikes moving around the premises.

We had a lot of rain in the week leading up to the weekend, so we found a huge amount of edible (and non edible) mushrooms, almost everywhere we drove or walked on the weekend.

villiersdorp

Our first visit to Villiersdorp. We had a picnic at the Aphrodisiac Shack Smoke House, very nice food but I'm not sure the picnic is worth it... next time I'll just buy the good stuff from their shop. We also drove the scenic route to Elands river / dam just north of Villiersdorp, spectacular views.

riversdale

Still on the road to the garden route, we had lunch at the old jail in Riversdale.

swellendam

On our way to the garden route for our holiday, we slept over at Wildebraam just outside Swellendam. Great views of the mountains and they have a nice little shop where you can taste and buy their liqueurs, preserves, mustard and chutneys.

This is the first time I've spent a few days in Swellendam, and I like the area very much. There is a very nice cheese shop outside the town on he R60 towards Montagu, well worth the detour!

old mac daddy

On our second visit to Old Mac Daddy Luxury Trailer Park we stayed in "For Better or for Boerewors". Our first visit was in the Birdy caravan. The views are just amazing here and the caravans are awesome. We were a little disappointed in the food though, I can't recommend their pizza.
