Today was the first time in 4 years that I did a orienteering event!

Back then I decided to take a break from all sport for a little while, but it seems the years have just flown by and I have sadly missed so many events.

Ansie and I walked the short park event this morning, and it was fantastic having a map in hand again... so I'll have to make an effort to do more events next year.

I walked the orienteering event in Constantia with my mother. The weather was great and the course was very enjoyable.

Once again my absolute favourite area for orienteering, and a really nice event with very nice courses.

Norman Davies and I organised the orienteering event at Jonkershoek in Stellenbosch. There's been a lot of rain in the area, and everything was nice and fresh.

We had a very large turnout on the day, and even ran out of emit cards for all the competitors.

The first forest orienteering event of the season was at Lebanon South in Grabouw. Excellent weather and nice views again. Ansie decided to walk this one with me, so it was very nice to have her there for a difference.

Julia also came with to the event again, and brought her friend Lucy. But this year she's walking the courses on her own, so that I can get "serious" about my orienteering again (if I wanted to, and if I ever get my ass into gear and start running again).

The orienteering event at Bishopscourt was fairly challenging this time round. Some interesting route choices.

Another very enjoyable orienteering event in Wynberg, rather steep hill in the middle which made me realise that I better start doing some form of exercise soon.

The new orienteering season has finally started! The first event at Keurboom, near Rondebosch, was a very nice and enjoyable course.

Julia, my mother and I did the 60 minute score event at Rondebosch. Another hot day, but a very fun course. Unfortunately we went a little over the time so lost a lot of points due to penalties.

Julia and I walked the Light Green course again yesterday, but we were also joined by Santie this time! I haven't seen Santie since high school about 20 years ago, and it was really great seeing her again.

The course was good, a proper Light Green course, not too difficult for novices but still some interesting legs. It was a pretty hot day and the forest is looking and smelling really good. Views are awesome as always...

Some photos and the map from the orienteering event at Steenbras Dam last weekend. Clear skies, but a very chilly wind, and lots of water to run through in the forest. Still my absolute favourite area for orienteering. But I'm soo unfit at the moment, it's terrible...
