Today we did our first orienteering event in the Cape. This was Ansie's second event ever, so we decided to do the short orange course (about 3km) so she can practise doing the navigation work. I managed to get a copy of the blue course so I can get some training in later.
Things certainly do run different down here. We arrived at the event about 25 minutes early, thinking that the registration time of 10:15 seemed a little late, and might be a mis-print, but there was nobody there. The first people (I think the race organisers) only arrived at about 10:05. And there was none of the start / finish bunting, starter stubs and all the other stuff we do in Gauteng. All you do down here is pay and get your control descriptions, walk down to the start where you get your start time, and off you go, easy as that...
