Steenbras dam is my favourite area in the whole of Grabouw. The forest is nice and runnable with lots of features, there aren't any huge hills, plenty of small streams everywhere and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. I also saw a huge owl and a few buck in the forest while racing.
My race went really well, I hit most of the controls just about spot on, and always according to my plan, which was to plan my routes so the final approach into the control would be accurate, even if it means a slight detour before getting to the control. Everything went fantastic.
My only gripe, as always, is my fitness. I've changed my training plan completely, and I can see some progress. But I had a veteran trail runner all over me during the race today (Kevin, I think his name was), and it was very clear how much stronger a runner he was. Reminds me of the days when I just started racing, I'd pull away from the more experienced orienteers, just to mess up on the navigation and get caught again. So I finished ahead of Kevin today due to my navigation, but give a few more races and I think he'll be leaving me behind...
