We went for a short (3 hour) hike at Silvermine today. It's been raining for a few days now, and it was a little cloudy and misty up on the mountain, with a slight chilly wind. Not the perfect weather for being outdoors, but much to our surprise, perfect weather for mushrooms... Although that was not really the purpose of this hike.
Silvermine is a fynbos area, but apparently there used to be a pine forest up there, and you can still find some very old pine logs lying around here and there. So when we parked the car, we already found our first batch of mushrooms.
Then up on the ridge, there's a great view of my favourite training area, Tokai forest down below. And on the other side Sivermine and Simonstown in the distance.
Then a little further on we found this amazing fairytale tree, covered in moss and mushrooms, growing right in the tree. (Click on the photos to view the larger versions)
And then we decided to go down from Silvermine into Tokai forest for a little bit, to have a look at the waterfall. On the way down, we saw lots more fungi.

Hi,
just wanted to say that Silvermine's is one of the most beautiful places in the world (this coming from my wast travel experience) and I'm glad that you've enjoyed your visit as much as I did every time I went there. It's a fanatstic experience no matter what time of the year or even time of the day; those forests and mountins always have a few surprises for you that will leave you breathless.
