orienteering at klein simonsvlei

Things are not going well at the moment. I'm finding it harder and harder to remain motivated in orienteering. There aren't many events, so I always look forward to each one, but it's terribly disappointing if you continue making big mistakes at each event. It's like having a really long loosing streak, and having to wait 2 to 4 weeks before you can try and improve...

Anyway, everything started OK at today's event, until I missed no 9 by about 20 meters. While trying to relocate, I misinterpreted the big ditch, and spent a lot of time running around for nothing. I then proceeded to take the safe, but longer detour from no 9 to 10. By the time I got to the top of the hill at no 11, I was already thinking about quiting, so it was over for me.

Lessons, I need to work on route choice, focusing more on getting a easy entry to the control, than going for the shortest route. I need to build some more endurance, I fade badly at about 1h30 into any race, but my hamstring is feeling a little better.

I have to mention that the area is absolutely awesome, and the courses were perfect, it's just the racer, he should have done the Blue...
