orienteering at grabouw / eikenhoff

The power of positive thinking: On my way to the race this morning, I decided to set a few goals for the event, and to try and focus on those while I'm racing.

First, I'm going to try and walk less. I've picked up a bad habit of walking up the hills, even when I'm not tired. My training has been very consistent the last few months, and I've started feeling a "little" stronger. So I also wanted to push a little harder today.

Second, I read an article / interview / quote from Thierry Gueorgiou somewhere (I wish I could remember), where they asked him what the difference is between his orienteering today, and a few years ago. He answered that a few years ago, he always knew where he was. Today, he always knows where he'll be in the next few minutes. That's brilliant, and I was going to try that today.

I enjoyed the race very much, I didn't make too many mistakes, and I didn't make any big mistakes, except perhaps when going from no 4 to no 5, I accidentally aimed for no 7, but realized my mistake half way up the hill and quickly changed direction.

I also managed to stick to my goals for most of the race, except for hesitating at a few places, and I think it worked pretty well.
